about us

We are The Multi-Story Orchestra. We perform in car parks. We create extraordinary performances, tell stories, and unleash creativity.

We started back in 2011, when composer Kate Whitley and conductor Christopher Stark wanted to find new ways to play orchestral music that would escape formal concert halls and be more exciting. The Orchestra started playing in Bold Tendencies in Peckham, where we now are every summer. We broadcast the first ever BBC Proms performance from a car park in 2016, and have also performed in other car parks around the UK – in Gloucester, Ipswich, Birmingham, Portsmouth and more.

Our performances bring together amassed choirs and instrumentalists to give incredibly moving musical experiences that celebrate the local community. We believe everyone should be able to be involved in music and be creative so we go into schools to create ensembles that involve everyone.

A few years ago some of our young people started making a piece of music in response to the death of a pupil from their school. We created a piece called ‘The Endz’ to give their perspective on gang culture through music. This was an incredibly powerful piece, and led us to start making music in ways that develop young people into leaders and enable them to tell their own stories through music. We believe that the most powerful art is created through this. Our goal is to create ways that orchestral music can be inclusive and accessible for everyone.

  • Angel studies photography in college. Her hobbies are reading, baking, sleeping and gaming. She has recently taken to black and white printing; a method used in the darkroom to print images from film. Common subjects for her photos are nature and landscapes or just interesting things she sees.

  • Christina AKA Taiwo (meaning the first born twin) is creatively inclined, bringing a positive personality to everything she does; music, fashion and writing. She is a focused and dedicated young professional studying in London. She comes from a mixed flavour background enriched in parental roots from Africa and the Caribbean.

  • Dupri is a passionate and committed soul singer/songwriter. Growing up amongst the vibrant and diverse music scene in South London, and listening to gospel music straight from America, he was exposed to an environment full of inspiration and stimulation for his soulful, feel-good music. He is interested in developing and creating ideas as a soloist and within a group. He has performed at many events and concerts through his school, Harris Academy Peckham. The biggest performance so far was at the Excel Arena in front of a crowd of over 4000 people. He won the ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ from the Jack Petchey Foundation.

  • Fatia is a performing arts student in her first year at college. She’s been doing performing arts since Year 10. Her interests are drama, dance and basketball. She swims and dances in her free time. The first time she acted in front of a crowd was a scary experience, but it also helped her to overcome her fears. Being in The Endz has taught her a lot about being an actress.

  • Flame has been interested in the performing arts since she was little, singing and dancing every chance she had. She has three certificates/medals in ballet and modern dancing and she toured Barcelona with her former choir. Recently, she has been taking opera lessons.

  • Nathaniel studies A Level Maths, Music and Computer Science. From a young age, he’s had a passion for music.
